It was 1988 when I commenced my professional harping career by offering songs and music for wedding services. This led to being booked for 478 wedding ceremonies over the years that followed.
Harp & Poetry
My love of poetry led me to provide music with the poetry of Irish poet, Seamus Hogan performed by his reciter, Michael Gradwell. Through 1989 this led us to performances at Harvard D University, Boston, Massachusetts Universities and the Providence Library at Rhode Ireland.
The poetry and harp partnership continued through performances in England at Spitalfields, London and “Images of Ireland” festival in Leicester. Back in Ireland we performed a “Poetry Ireland” tour with performances in Dublin, Cork, Kilkenny and Monaghan.
Back To The USA
With the help of Irish music dj, William Ramouter, of Jacksonville Florida, I opened for The Chieftains in 1992 and The Fureys in 1993. Both concerts were at the Florida Theatre in Jacksonville.
Then since 1996 I have performed at the Florida Folk Festival five times.
Other USA events include a celebration of the Folk Harpers Society in the Senate Caucus Room at Washington DC and recitals at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville.
I will be returning to the USA during March 2007 for a series of concerts leading up to a performance at the World Conference of Spiritual Directors in Washington DC.
Discovered In Australia
My first visit to Australia was in 1999 due to an invitation to perform some fundraiser concerts for the National Trust of Australia to raise funds for the renovation and maintenance of some of their heritage houses.
Requests and word of mouth referrals rewarded me with opportunities to return to Australia for larger tours to wider audiences during 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, and earlier this year, 2007.
Through Australia, I have performed at theatres, a folk festival, harp society events, Irish cultural centres, churches, house concerts, folk clubs and performed live on various television and radio shows such as the morning show on ABC. All in addition to my continued performances for the National Trust.
I am returning to Australia later this year to record a cd with the Tara Singers Choir in Brisbane and then continue with concerts.
I extended my 2006 tour of Australia to New Zealand where I performed for the Kapiti Coast Irish Society. I hope to return to New Zealand soon.
In My Ireland Homeland
In 2002 I performed a solo lunchtime recital at the National Concert Hall. The success of this led to a series of further National Concert Hall concerts under the title of “Singing Harps” with other singer harpists Madeleine Doherty and Fionnuala Monks in 2005 and March 2007.
Madeleine and myself will return for another “Singing Harps” performance at the National Concert Hall during April 2008. “Singing Harps” concerts at other venues around Ireland during 2008 are possible.
Other past performances in Ireland include annual performances at the W.B. Yeats Festival and Summer School in Sligo where I mainly perform tracks from my “Dancing In The Wind” cd of Yeats poems set to music.
I have also performed for Kinsale Arts Week, Listowell Writer’s Week, Clifden Arts Society, University College Dublin’s Music Society, University College Dublin’s Music Society, Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin and St. Anne’s Church, Dublin and this year for an EU conference in Dublin arranged by the Eamon Bates Group of Brussels.
At the historic Tara Hill it has been a pleasure to perform at two Summer Solstice sunset concerts of 2004 and 2005 in the spirit of bringing back the harp to Tara.
From 2003 I have performed for visiting pilgrimage groups arranged by Ceile De of Ireland led by Marcus Losack and Sapira of Virginia USA led by Regina Roman..
During 2004 I shared performing music with flautist and retreat co-ordinator Seamus Byrne at a retreat event in Clonmacnoise.
During 2006 and 2007 I have also performed for “Veil Between Two Worlds” and “Celtic Ways” tour and retreat groups arranged by my partner John Willmott.
John is currently preparing a “Veil Between Two Worlds” play and presentation to take to the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand during 2008 and 2009 that will include songs and music performance by myself.
…… And Performances To Come
I am currently recording from a large backlog of songs that I have wrote, accumulated and performed and I look forward to sharing these with you where I am invited, anywhere in the world, solo, with Madeleine, with John, with the Tara Singers, maybe again with Seamus (both of them), or even with people I have yet to meet.
I look forward to receiving invitations to share my music with you and equally look forward to visiting your venues whether they are drawing rooms, lounges, churches, tents, sacred sites, clubs, meeting rooms, theatre stages, festivals, cafes, shops, meditation circles, retreat camps, restored heritage buildings or anywhere where you feel my song and music performance would be welcome.
